We are a non-selective and fully-inclusive community school. Pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan will be given special consideration based on their plan, and Looked After children will also have priority admission.

Following these children, priority will be given to siblings of current pupils, and then children on the basis of straight line distance.

If there are more applications than places available, the LA will give priority to children in the following order:

1: Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children
Priority will be given to looked after children and previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order) immediately following having been looked after. The School Admissions Code 2014 states that: A ‘looked after child’ is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions. This includes children who were adopted under the Adoption Act 1976 (see section 12 adoption orders) and children who were adopted under the Adoption and Children's Act 2002 (see section 46 adoption orders).

2:  Siblings

Children with a brother or sister who already attends the school, and who will not have left the school at the time of admission. As a result, siblings in the nursery or year 6 of a primary school will not be regarded as a sibling under this criterion. A sibling is defined as a full/half/step brother or sister (who are living at the same address in all instances) or a child who is living as part of the family by reason of a court order, or a child who has been placed with foster carers at that address as a result of being looked after by the Local Authority.

3: Children with Exceptional Medical or Social Needs
Children with a professionally supported medical or social need, whose application identifies a particular school that is especially able to meet that need. This criterion will also consider where a parent/carer has a physical, mental or social need that is significant and demonstrable for their child to attend a specific school. This does not include childcare arrangements. The decision to prioritise on these grounds will be determined via MEDSOC panel.

4: Distance
Priority will be given on the basis of distance between the child’s home and the school, measured by a straight-line. This measurement will be done using a computerized mapping system. This measurement will be from a point from the child’s home as identified by the software to a point at the school as profiled in the software. The child’s home address will be the child’s permanent place of residency and must not be a business address, or the address of a relative or carer, unless they have legal custody of the child. Applications must only be made from a single address.

If your child is in year 6 for the academic year 24/25, they will need to apply for a secondary school place. To apply for a secondary school place, click on the link below.

Secondary School Application

The school uses the eastings and nor things linked to an applicant’s address to calculate a straight-line distance measurement to the main school entrance. If a child lives in a block of flats where a communal entrance is used, the school will use the grid references for the block, not for the individual flat. When dealing with multiple applications from a block of flats to the same community school, lower door numbers will take priority.

All applicants refused a place have a right of appeal to an independent appeal panel constituted and operated in accordance with the School Admission Appeals Code.

Appellants should appeal, using the form in the link below, to the Admissions Officer (Appeals) at Streatham Wells Primary School within 20 school days, counting from the day after the date of the letter confirming that their application was unsuccessful. Any parent/carer wishing to know of their child’s ranking on the waiting list and the criteria that applies to them has the right to be informed should they request this information.

If your child has been refused a place at one of your preferred schools, you have the right to appeal the decision under the 1998 School Standards and Frameworks Act (“The Act”). You will need to lodge your appeal with the Local Authority (LA) for that school or the school which controls its own admissions. Please click here for more information.
